Worked example 1
Under §1.07, 'serious bodily injury' means bodily injury that:
- Required hospital treatment
- Lasted longer than one week
- Creates a substantial risk of death or causes death, serious permanent disfigurement, or protracted loss or impairment of the function of any bodily member or organ Correct
- Required stitches or a cast
Why: SBI is bodily injury that creates a substantial risk of death OR causes death, serious permanent disfigurement, or protracted loss or impairment of the function of any bodily member or organ.

Worked example 2
Under §1.07, a 'deadly weapon' includes:
- Only firearms
- Only items >5 inches long with a blade
- A firearm or anything manifestly designed for inflicting death/SBI, OR anything that in the manner of its use or intended use is capable of causing death or serious bodily injury Correct
- Anything heavier than one pound
Why: A deadly weapon is a firearm/object manifestly designed for death/SBI, OR anything that in the manner of its use or intended use is capable of causing death or SBI. Hands, feet, vehicles, rocks — all can qualify under the second prong depending on use.
